Lose the Fat Diabetic Diet and Exercise Plan

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Andrew Bicknell" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'andrew-bicknell/93462">Andrew Bicknell

Back in March of 2005 the results of the Diabetes Prevention Program were released by the American Diabetes Association. This study was conducted nationwide at 25 medical centers and tracked thousands of potential diabetics who were given a lose the fat diabetic diet and exercise plan. Everyone in the study group was pre-diabetic, meaning they all suffered from high blood sugar levels that were higher then normal but not in the diabetic range. Half of all people diagnosed with pre-diabetes will eventually become type 2 diabetics if left untreated.

There were two groups of people is this study. One half of the participants were given only dietary recommendations to follow. The other half were given the same diet but were also asked to exercise 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes per day.

The results of this study were unexpected. Those pre-diabetics who exercised along with following the diabetic diet reduced by 58% their risk of developing diabetes. The reason for this was simple; they lost weight because of these lifestyle changes. Researchers found that exercising and losing weight had the direct effect of lowering blood sugar levels to normal, which wasn't thought to be possible.

It is thought that weight loss for those with pre-diabetes helps prevent the onset of diabetes but it also helps to reverse the damage to insulin producing cells caused by obesity. Depending on how much you weigh it was found that losing 5% to 7% of your body weight can make a difference.

The key to this diet is eating healthy foods that not help the pre-diabetic lose weight but also keep the weight off. The American Diabetes Association recommends a daily diet that consists of the following.

* Grain - 6-11 servings per day (Bread, Cereal, Rice, Pasta)
* Vegetables - 3-5 servings per day
* Fruits - 2-4 servings per day
* Milk - 2-3 servings per day
* Meat - 4-6 ounces per day (Meat, eggs, fish, dried beans, nuts and peanut butter)
* Fats, Sweets, Alcohol - Occasional treats

Not only is this diet recommended for diabetes but it is also endorsed by the American Heart Association to help combat the risks for heart disease. This points out how important it is to eat healthy and follow a fat loss diabetic diet and exercise program.

How to Safely Cheat on Your Diet

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Kelliann Bateman" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'kelliann-bateman/129721">Kelliann Bateman

There are many ways of cheating on a diet and many different types of diet cheaters. Which one holds you back?

Inadvertent Cheater

Blatant/Lazy Cheater

Well-intended Cheater

Oblivious Cheater

The Intentional/Controlled Cheater

The Inadvertent Cheater thinks that they are eating healthy when they really are not. For example, they may buy a cereal that is marketed as a high-fiber, bran cereal, and while that may be true, it also contains more sugar than the "Cocoa Choo-Choos" marketed to kids. They may forego soda for juice—and although the juice is a better choice—it too contains high amounts of sugar or fructose. Make sure you are checking labels. Just because it is marketed as a health food—doesn't mean that it is.

The Blatant/Lazy Cheater is another story; they befriend procrastination. They figure that they already ate the Oreo when they were making the kid's lunches so…they may as well wait and start that diet tomorrow—and proceed to eat the whole bag of Oreos. Tomorrow never comes.

The Well-intended Cheater does pretty well most of the time. Their set-back happens when they have eaten a clean diet during the first part of the day and so they figure that the pizza for lunch won't hurt—especially since they plan to have a salad for dinner. They stick to their plan and eat the salad for dinner; however, the salad comes with high calorie dressing, which they smother the salad with.

The Oblivious Cheater is the taste-tester. They don't mean to cheat; however, they take a little bite of the macaroni and cheese they are making for lunch to ensure it is not too hot for little Joey. Later in the afternoon, little Joey wants to go to the park, but it is raining—so they head to the neighborhood fast-food joint that sports a Play Place—where they feel obligated to buy the Happy Meal. While little Joey is busy playing, they figure a couple of those fries won't hurt, and a bite or two of those chicken nuggets are probably okay—they do have protein—and they hate to see it go to waste. Later when fixing dinner, just a little sample to make sure it isn't too salty. When cleaning up, they take just a small piece of the bread that Little Joey didn't even touch. All those little bites?—they add up to big calories at the end of the day—and take a big bite out of reaching your fitness goals.

The Intentional/Controlled Cheater is the only form of cheating that is legal and won't keep you from attaining your fitness goals. This is the category that I fall under. I do not always eat perfect—that being said—I try to keep a clean diet almost all the time.

At our house, Saturday night is movie night. It is the one time during the week I break the no food in the living room rule. It is also the one day of the week I get to legally cheat on my clean diet rules. We go shopping for movie night treats, which consists of popcorn, candy, and we usually order a pizza complete with breadsticks and Buffalo wings. We get mounds of blankets and pillows and picnic in the living room. I look forward to this time with my family all week. I wouldn't give it up for anything. The rest of the time we—even the kids—make a conscience effort to be as healthy as we can.

I also break the clean diet rules for my children's birthday parties—I will NOT forego a piece of birthday cake in celebration of my child's life—NO WAY! If we go to a BBQ or somebody invites us out, I will munch on a few chips and eat the hamburger— I don't want to be rude. You will never see me eating just a salad on my wedding anniversary, nor will I refuse to eat a homemade chocolate chip cookie on Christmas Eve with my children. To me, these are the celebrations that are the building blocks of a happy life—kind of like protein is to muscle. I don't consider it cheating; I consider it the precious moments in life.

So what can/should you do?

Take the time to read labels. Check content for extra sugar, fructose syrup, sodium, and high levels of "bad" fat (sat/trans look instead for foods with omega 3 fats). Try to avoid packaged processed foods altogether when possible and opt instead for fresh foods or foods you prepare at home.

Quit procrastinating—there is no time like today. An old Chinese proverb states that "The best day to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best day is today."

Remember that getting fit is a lifestyle. Although there will be times when a piece of cake is appropriate—reserve those for special occasions or one night a week you have set aside as a "treat-night." It is important though that even special occasions and "treat-night" require some moderation. Indulge a little--but don't binge.

Often we don't realize all the extra calories we eat without even thinking about it. For one week, carry a sandwich bag with you on a daily basis. Every time you are about to sample the macaroni and cheese, the dinner you are preparing, a single Fruit Loop, French fry, or chicken nugget, put it in the sandwich bag instead of your mouth. You will be surprised how quickly it can fill up. Consider the calories you have saved at the end of the week.

When you do have a legitimate reason you are cheating, such as special celebrations or a predetermined night that is set aside, keep it within reason. You can have pizza with the kids, but you don't have to eat an entire large pizza by yourself. Pick a treat such as a dark chocolate candy bar (filled with antioxidants) but don't eat the entire bag of Cheetos (it is also not necessary to sample every movie treat that your kids have).

Diet That Work

Author: <a target="_blank" title="garyhill" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'garyhill/205724">garyhill

When it comes to shedding unsightly body fat, information on weight loss diets that work - tips on weight loss are appreciated by many a desperate dieter. Fat Loss 4 Idiots is one of the easiest diets to do because it provides you with a menu generating software you can use again and again to create different menus which are made up of food items you select.

One of the most effective and safest ways to lose the unwanted fat is to follow the right diet accompanied by certain daily exercises. Acai berry and colon cleansing too help you get rid of the fat deposits naturally. Some experts suggest trying some straightforward exercise like walking while under a crash diet. There are a number of crash diets that work. However, as the name implies, it should only be done for a short while. A good rule of thumb for calories is that 15 calories per pound of body weight fulfills the minimum requirements to run our bodies. But, in order to lose weight we need to lower that amount.

Drink only water, eat only a thousand calories each day, and combine it with 3 minutes of aerobic activity 5 days each week. It's a sure thing you'll shed weight. Perhaps you are looking to lose a few pounds within the next couple of weeks, or maybe your weight loss goals are more long term. It is important to find a diet plan that is right for you. You must have all food groups in your diet - from protein, fiber, fat and carbs - you will need it for a healthy body. So stay away from online diets that suggest otherwise. With calorie shifting by eating based on the calorie shifting diet system your body will increase its metabolism in reaction to the foods you eat.

Exercising will boost your metabolism which is essential to help you burn more fat than usual. A diet that works usually will require you to follow an exercise program as well. Do not consume the wrong kind of snack. One study showed that people who ate a snack rich in protein and fiber, they consumed fewer calories at their next meal than those with a sweet selection of the same number of calories. The Pocket Diet is also another great way to shed 20 pounds in 7 days. You basically need to stock up on pita bread pockets which are filled with healthy foodstuff such as vegetables and lean chicken breast meat. Diets that work always employ metabolic "enhancers". What are these metabolic enhancers? One is exercise. Your diet isn't just about what you eat. It's also about what you do.

The best diet that works requires a little commitment from you. You need the commitment because long-term weight loss and maintenance is for life and not just for special occasions so you need to be able to keep it up. Healthy diets that reject sugar from your daily diet. Although as it is addictive, going sugar free is a challenge - but what you to note here is sweets are not meant to be taken every day.

Gestational Diabetes Baby Risks

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Andrew Bicknell" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'andrew-bicknell/93462">Andrew Bicknell

Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that is characterized by insulin resistance that occurs primarily during the second and third trimester of a woman's pregnancy. It is believed to be caused by the rapid and excessive hormone production that women go through during their pregnancy. It is also thought that pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to deal with rising blood sugar levels which leads to hyperglycemia. Left untreated a gestational diabetes baby is placed at a higher risk.

About 4 percent of all pregnant women will be afflicted with gestational diabetes but it usually goes away after the baby is born. Left untreated this form of diabetes can pose a dangerous risk to both the mother and unborn baby. The biggest risk is caused by excessive sugar that crosses the placenta to the baby. Insulin on the other hand does not cross this barrier.

High blood sugar levels in the mother means the same for the baby. The developing baby's pancreas compensates for this by producing more insulin to remove the excess sugar from its blood stream. The sugar is stored away as fat which leads to macrosomia, also known as fat baby syndrome.

Babies born with macrosomia can have a whole host of health issues, some of which can be life threatening. Because babies born with this condition tend to be larger then normal they are most often require a cesarean birth. If they are born naturally they can damage their shoulders because they are too large for the birth canal. They can also be born with extremely low blood sugar levels and their respiratory system may not be fully developed, causing breathing problems.

To prevent gestational diabetes baby risks every woman should be tested during the second trimester of their pregnancy. If they are found to be suffering from this condition treatment and control needs to be started quickly. In most cases it can be controlled through gestational diabetes meal planning and exercise but in more extreme cases medical intervention may be necessary including daily insulin injections.

Diet for Gestational Diabetes - Do's and Don'ts for a healthy diet

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Sue Roberts" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'sue-roberts/223296">Sue Roberts

Diet for gestational diabetes is much sought after because although a rare condition, gestational diabetes is very worrying for sufferers. An overall diet plan takes into account all aspects of physical, psychosocial and educational requirements.

If this is the case not only is the mothers health at risk but the development of the foetus may well be adversely affected . There have been studies which indicate that sufferers of this particular form of the disease may well have a predisposition to it, although pregnancy may actually cause it.

It is recommended that all pregnant women are screened to ensure early treatment to help to mitigate pregnancy induced hypertension, premature birth, future childhood obesity and diabetes and other complications.

Very often a pregnant woman has other things on her mind rather than taking care of her diet, this is designed for these women.

Start the day with a small breakfast consisting of a protein item like eggs (not fried) , brown bead and peanut butter

Follow this with small meals after 3 or 4 hours comprising again a high protein item like skinned fish, lean meat, eggs, nuts, cottage cheese, peanut butter

Fruits, green and leafy vegetables

Milk should be taken in moderation and should be skimmed

Avoid sugar, sweeteners and sweets, pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, soft and fizzy drinks, marmalade and jams, and cornstarch. Junk foods are a definite no-no along with packaged meals, frozen foods and canned fish and soups. Also keep the consumption of butter, cheese, mayonnaise, thick and sour cream and margarine to the minimum.

Avoid using cooking oils, instead steam, bake, grill or boil.

It is important to take plenty of exercise

Its comforting to remember however that this condition is rare, with only about 4% of pregnant women contracting it and it seldom continues after the birth, although there is a likelihood that it might recur later in life with 40% of women developing Type 2 diabetes later, in order to lessen the chances of this its wise to follow a diet for gestational diabetes

Food You Should Avoid if You Have Diabetes

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Jack Stanley" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'jack-stanley/71409">Jack Stanley

There is not a diet for diabetes. General guidelines exist, like "eat less fat and saturated fat and eat more whole grains, fruits and vegetables" .. Your meal plan diabetes must be based on your individual needs. When it comes to what to eat and what not to eat for diabetics, advice is plentiful. With so much sense and advice from various sources, it may be difficult to determine what food you should be including in the framework of your diet. Instead what we should eat, why not start with the wrong types of foods for diabetics?

In principle, a diet low in saturated fats well controlled blood sugar that integrates weight control, exercise and less refined sugars is recommended. The control of blood sugar with diet, and in some cases, medication is the key. To keep blood sugar under control, diet strikes a balance between carbohydrates, fats, proteins and you take in. In addition, a 1500 calorie diet restricted in calories and fat. These fruits helps control blood sugar, levels. Because of their low glycemic index, they favour a gradual increase in the level of sugar in the blood which is very beneficial for diabetics.

Carbohydrates include a wide range of foods, including table sugar, fruits and vegetables and cereals such as rice and wheat. Carbohydrates (either potatoes or table sugar) usually five minutes to three hours to digest, while the protein takes three to six hours and fat can take eight hours or more. That is why different foods have different effects on blood sugar, such as why ice cream (higher in fat) raises blood sugar more slowly than potatoes. Carbohydrates choice must come from whole grains or cereals, bread, pasta, brown rice, beans, fruits and vegetables. Increasing dietary fiber is a general guideline for the whole population rather than specifically for people with diabetes. Avoid simple, processing and carbohydrates concentrated. Very carbohydrates in processed foods packaged like fast food, white bread and flour products white, have a high glycemic index causing spikes in the sugar sector. Sugar and refined carbohydrates are undeniably linked to diabetes.

Beware of sugar-free cookies and other products for diabetics. Even if they are without sugar, May they contain trans fatty acids or fat have more than their sweet counterparts. Foods sweetened are fattening. Many foods that have a lot of table sugar are very rich in calories and fat. Without sugar candy and other products using the term "sugar" must be assessed for the entire content of carbohydrates. Sugar alcohols, although listed by their weight in food listed in the table of nutritional value, are not metabolized (broken down and used for energy) how sugars are true.

If you have any alcoholic drinks on an empty stomach, they can make your blood glucose levels too low. Alcoholic beverages may also increase your blood fats. Many people do not realize that milk can increase the sugar in the blood, because it doesn? T? Taste sweet? But it contains lactose, which will turn to glucose. A container of sugar free, fat-free yogurt is also equal to one carb choice.

Eating foods high quality that are rich in nutrients and fiber can help normalize blood sugar. Working with a doctor and be vigilant about diet can make a difference long-term health of a person living with diabetes. Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables May satisfy sugar cravings without compromising levels of sugar, fiber in fruits, vegetables and grains may regulate how the sugar is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.

The ideal diet for people with diabetes is to maintain a balance between sugars, fiber, fat and salt. No food is completely banned, but certain foods, especially sugar, fat and salt should be consumed in limited quantities. Learning about diabetes and making the right lifestyle changes can help keep blood sugar levels and fat as close to normal as possible and maintain a body weight. All these factors will help reduce the risk of developing serious complications of diabetes. The fat must be removed before cooking.

Gestational Diabetes Symptoms, Changes Occurred During Pregnancy

Author: <a target="_blank" title="adrianna smith" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'adrianna-smith/181162">adrianna smith

Gestational diabetes is often a neglected infection of 1 to 2% of all pregnant women is typically in the second half of pregnancy. Because the disease almost always goes without any symptoms, but without treatment can have serious consequences for the fetus, every pregnant woman between the 20th and 28th week of pregnancy should be investigated. This is especially true for obese women and women whose close relatives have diabetes.

Gestational diabetes is a disorder in carbohydrate metabolism that occurs or is discovered during pregnancy. If dietary measures alone are sufficient for the disorder under control, or whether this is insulin, does not matter.

What causes gestational diabetes?
Essentially a pregnancy can be compared to a state of chronic malnutrition. Both the growth of the maternal organs uterus, breast as the development of the child and the placenta to ensure significant changes occurred during pregnancy in the metabolism of the mother.
There is both more glucose into the fruit, while the mother herself fatter, especially free fatty acids, used as a primary energy source. The mother saves her glucose was, for her child. This has caused the fasting blood sugar or glucose in normal pregnant women is lower than outside pregnancy.
Despite the lower fasting glucose increases the blood sugar after glucose load, and so after a meal, during the pregnancy to higher values and it decreases more slowly than non-pregnant women. This is caused by some form of 'insulin resistance' or 'insulin resistance', based on the placenta. This is because a number of hormones that counteract the normal insulin function. The pancreas of the pregnant woman is obliged to produce more insulin in order to ensure that blood sugar rises too high, These ranges from a two to three times the normal production.

One can thus actually a pregnancy as a physiological stress state of the pancreatic beta-cells that produce insulin. How the sugar metabolism during pregnancy will continue normally, depends on the presence of adequate beta cell reserve in the mother. The latter is not large enough, gestational diabetes occurs.
In most cases, insulin resistance disappears a few days after birth, coinciding with the removal of the placenta, and the diabetes disappears.

Risks to the mother:
Although the disorder usually disappears after childbirth, the mother is a great opportunity to develop diabetes again in a future pregnancy.

Risks to the child:
The higher blood levels of the mother, who through the placenta to go over the fetus, encourage the child to an increased insulin secretion by the pancreas own. These elevated insulin levels cause an overgrowth of the Macrosomia with a greater accumulation of lipid, a larger placenta and amniotic more.
The risk of perinatal complications - including premature birth, trauma during delivery such as a shoulder dislocation, hypo ... - For such a child is larger than normal.
The child is usually heavier for gestational age and apparently looks healthier than in reality. Moreover, such a child to run a higher risk of developing diabetes later in life.

Gestational Diabetes Treatment:
Since most women with gestational diabetes are obese, is a reduction of food intake as a measure for the first hand. Depending on the degree of obesity will be limited to energy intake from 1500 to 1800 calories per day, where a normal pregnant, especially in the second half of pregnancy, getting at least 2,000 calories. If women with gestational diabetes are not obese, then they may also hesitate to 2000 calories.

At least half of the energy should come from unrefined, slow contained carbohydrates (like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, fruits, vegetables, etc. Refined 'quick' sugars (like candy, chocolate, soft drinks ...) are highly undesirable.

Often it is useful, in addition to three main meals, a snack to take at bedtime, in order to avoid nocturnal hypoglycemia. Others have benefited with more frequent smaller meals spread throughout the day. Will usually be advised to not to extend to breakfast, but earlier in the morning to eat a snack.

Except for energy intake and the carbohydrate concern, the power of a different woman with gestational diabetes is not that of a normal pregnant in protein, iron, calcium, magnesium and other vitamins and minerals.

Diabetic Diet Plan Menu

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Winston Hopkins" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'winston-hopkins/274952">Winston Hopkins

Type two diabetes is becoming commoner each and each year in several Western nations. There are several factors which contribute to the aggravation of the disease, including insufficient exercise and absence of correct diet. In a number of cases, genetics also has to be blamed. What many people tend to miss is the actuality that their state can be lessened by adhering to the correct diabetes Type two menu.

Type two Diabetes - the basics

Come visit us right here for more info on Diabetic Meal Plan. We are the greatest source of info on Diabetes today.
http://diabetesmenu.org

A particular study proved that just about 20 million inhabitants of the US suffer from diabetes. Around 95% of these have Type 2 diabetes. The age bracket collapsed to 46 years old from the previous age of 52 years.
Another unwelcome fact is that the disease is no longer limited to aged folks alone, because now even kids and other kids have a huge wish to obtain the illness. As an interesting point its scope has been widened, for each gender has the equal chance to obtain the disease.

So how does diabetes actually occur? The rationale is claimed to be a dysfunction that impacts on the patient's pancreas. This problem impedes the production of the insulin needed by the body. Insulin is the substance in charge of the conversion of the sugars that we intake into glucose, which is the main supply of cellular energy into our cells. What's tricky about this condition is that it frequently doesn't manifest perceptible symptoms ; the most common symptoms are the intensified thirst of the patient, upsurge in urination, exhaustion, appetite increase, indistinct vision, slow healing of the patient's injuries and among men, possible penile dysfunction.

If you're already experiencing a number of these symptoms then the smartest thing for you to do is to talk to your doctor so that you would be able to get the finest recommendation on the simple way to treat your case. One of your concerns if the physician diagnoses diabetes should be the management of these symptoms and the alleviation of your condition by way of the correct and medically accepted methods.

Diabetes Type two Treatment
A particularly important step is to lose some weight. The 2 main strategies for doing this are by undergoing sensible exercise and by following a correct diet.

Be reminded that you need to also reduce intake of calories, for these if not burned would only be converted to body fat.

Protein is one of the most important nutrients that a diabetic should consume more of, for it assists in building the person's bones and muscles which in turn generate energy. Among the healthiest food are the lean ones such as skinless turkey and low fat milk. There also are veg that are loaded in protein, some of which are nuts, soy foods and legumes.
Generally, you would have to conform yourself to eat more plants and fruits instead of the processed foods often found in the superstore.
Among the items that can be included in the diabetes Type two menu are Spanish omelet, potato salads and other green salads, pueblo squish stew, lime-marinated shrimp, griddled chicken sandwich together with yogurt and the grilled Pacific swordfish. These meals should be included in your plan because they have less fat, in addition to the incontrovertible fact that they are tasty.

It is also good to match the choice of foods to the lifestyle of the person. This is allowed not only in the gestational diabetes diet but also in any other kinds of sensible diet. Complex carbohydrates are used to replace the simple sugars. Vital nutrients including carbohydrates must be balanced through out the day. Fats are is also important for the body, as they help in better absorption of nutrients. However, you need to take care not to ingest excess fat. And remember to choose foods with good fats.

For the aboriginal trimester weight accretion should be in the 2 to 4 batter ambit and again an added batter every anniversary for the additional and third trimesters.
